Though there has been a decline in Covid-19 deaths during the week (September 18-24), the state witnessed a 35% surge in positive cases at 305 during the week as compared 225 between September 11-17.
Most of the cases were reported from Dimapur, Kohima and Tuensang while eight deaths recorded during week were all from Dimapur.
In its weekly bulletin, HFW department also informed that hospitalization increased to 55 during the week as compared to 47 the previous week.
Advisory for schools: With schools set to reopen for classes 5-10 from October, the department has issued advisory to ensure safety of all students and faculties.
The Health department stressed on the need for stringent adherence to universal masking for staff and students matched by hand hygiene, physical distancing, adequate ventilation.
It further said that vaccination of teachers, non-teaching staff and eligible students should be prioritized.
While stating that the level of community transmission in a district should be the key parameter to guide reopening (positivity rate 5%), the department said called for high level of testing and contact tracing within schools.
HFW also suggested redesigning of classroom routines to limit student interaction inside and outside the rooms.
The department pointed out that this year alone 2816 Covid-19 cases were reported from among students while three succumbed to the infection.
It cautioned that Delta variant was likely to drive substantial increases in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in places with low vaccination rates.
Milestone in Covid vaccination coverage: The state also reached a milestone in Covid-19 vaccination as total doses administered crossed 10 lakh doses. As on September 25, a total of 10,19,604 persons have been inoculated against Covid-19 (683316 first dose and 336288 second dose)
WSPR at 5%: The weekly sample positivity rate (WSPR) has remained less than 5% for six consecutive weeks in the state. However, Dimapur (5.4%) and Phek (5%) showed an increase in current week.
34 fresh cases, 1 death: Nagaland on Saturday on recorded 34 fresh Covid-19 positive cases while one more patient succumbed to the virus.
Of the fresh cases, 26 were from Dimapur, six in Kohima and two in Mokokchung, taking the total caseload to 31119.
One more death was reported from Dimapur, pushing the death toll to 662 (including 15 non-Covid deaths but with positivity).
